When Silence Follows Harm: Tamar in 2 Samuel 13

Some stories in Scripture are difficult to read.

Second Samuel 13 tells the story of Tamar, a woman whose life is changed by the actions of another. What follows is not immediate justice or restoration, but silence. The people around her respond imperfectly, and her pain remains largely unaddressed within the narrative.

That silence can feel unsettling. We want resolution. We want someone to make things right. Instead, Scripture allows us to sit with the reality that some wounds are not quickly healed and some questions are not quickly answered.

Tamar's story reminds us that God does not turn away from painful chapters simply because they are difficult. Even when Scripture records silence, it does not suggest absence. God remains present in the stories that feel unfinished.

As we continue our 12 Cups of Grace journey, July invites us to approach Scripture with compassion and humility. Not every story offers resolution, but every story reminds us of our need for God's presence and care.
